The Last Decade of Films
(or cut out the useless sex scenes!)Thirty years ago, you would never have seen someone sleeping in the same bed together on TV or film. Having sex was completely out of the question.
What happened to those days? Obviously, times progress, things get looser, that's normal. Seeing two people sleeping in the same bed isn't a big deal. One could say that that's just because I'm used to it, and I'll get used to sex in films too. But there is a major difference: propriety.
Apparently, sex sells films better. At least, that is what we are told. Frankly, if I know a movie is going to have a sex scene in it, I'd just as soon avoid it. There are exceptions that can be made, of course. The Matrix Reloaded has been the only one so far. But really, do you want to see two people having sex on a humongous screen? I sure don't! Maybe I'm just weird that way, but I certainly can't be the only one who it bothers.
And sex is just the worse. I don't want to see people making out either! It's even worse when they zoom in and you can see the tongues. Yeah, thanks for showing that. I love seeing tongues full of saliva!
It probably doesn't help that I'm grossed out by kissing in the first place, not to mention anything beyond that. If it's not full blown sex, they just show a lot of skin, or flat nudity. More things I don't want to see. If I wanted to see that, I'd buy porn. As it is, I don't, so please don't try to force it on me!
Really, my main question to these film companies is, What do these scenes add to the movie? If it helps plot or character development, you can just as easily imply what they did. You don't have to show the whole freaking thing!! How 'bout we get back to making movies for the plot's sake, and not for the sake of making millions? Oh, wait. That never happened.
